Meetings with Remarkable Manuscripts

with Christopher de Hamel
Saturday

York
£15 non-subscriber, £12 subscriber

Christopher de Hamel’s talk will be based on his book Meetings with Remarkable Manuscripts, which won the Duff Cooper Prize for the best non-fiction book of 2016. It is an account of the experience of examining supremely important illuminated manuscripts, and what we can elicit from them about their own history and about the world in which they were made. Christopher will tell of his own meetings with medieval manuscripts at Sotheby's and in rare book libraries around the world. It will be a richly illustrated celebration of why medieval manuscripts matter.
